Program History
It was a great experience!! Having someone help you sort of decide on a career and give you info is very helpful.

Cybermentor is a collaborative program between the Universities of
Calgary and Edmonton, and the Alberta Women's Science Network. Started
in November 2001 as SCIberMENTOR, the program has gone from strength to
strength due to the dedication of its staff and volunteers, and the
generosity of many supporters.
The program has grown significantly in participation and demand,
from 66 matched pairs in the first year of operation to over 400 in
2007-8 (increase of over 600%). Currently, Cybermentor is one of the
largest programs of its kind in Canada, having involved over close to
2,000 mentors and their mentees in mentoring relationships in 60
communities across Alberta since its inception. It is a model for other
mentoring programs (including CyberMentor in Germany), a flagship
program among its strong corporate sponsors, and is highly praised by
an ever-expanding community of women and girls engaged in careers in
science and engineering.
The program staff continues to make improvements based on feedback
received in our annual evaluations. In the fall of 2008 the new online
community and social networking program format was unveiled, allowing
the program to grow and keep in step with rapid changing social and
technical environments. If you are interested in having us visit a
school or do a presentation, please contact us. We would be happy to make the trip out!
