Training Opportunities
I have kept
in touch with the first young woman I was matched with (from 3 years ago) and it has been a very good experience!
- Mentor
A number of training tools have been created to suit your needs and
schedules and to help you get the most out of your mentoring
relationship. We hope you find them useful and would appreciate any
comments or suggestions for improvement.
Mentor Training Sessions
Each year we host training sessions for mentors in Calgary and
Edmonton. Where possible, we offer these sessions online as well, to
allow mentors in other centres to participate. These sessions are great
opportunities to meet other mentors, and since the sessions change each
year you are encouraged to attend even if you have been to one before! Watch for information here soon about the training opportunities this fall.

November 2007: Making Mentoring Count
This interactive workshop, for new and returning mentors, explored the
power of asset building within mentees - the notion that every caring
adult has a role in building developmental assets for and with young
people. Practical strategies for building a trusting and sustainable
mentoring relationship were offered and goal setting was discussed as a
way to enrich a mentoring experience. A number of tips were offered
for:
- motivating a mentee
- refreshing a relationship
- leveraging program resources to drive the mentoring relationship
- designing a mentoring agreement
- communicating effectively
- modeling positive behavior and;
- successfully maneuvering through the four seasons of a mentoring relationship.
Program Handbook
When you join the program you will receive a program handbook in the
mail. It gives an overview of the program, and offers many suggestions
to get you started. It contains a list of frequently asked questions
(FAQs) we've compiled and we hope that it will be a useful reference
throughout the year.
