Safety & Security

The safety of participants and the security of their personal information is extremely important. At Cybermentor the following procedures and protocols are in place and strictly adhered to.

 Mentors who apply for the Cybermentor program undergo a personal interview and are required to provide two references. These references are personally interviewed by phone by the program staff to verify the information provided by the applicant.

 We take reasonable precautions to ensure the mentors are who they say they are, but no background checks are performed. It remains your responsibility as a parent to ensure the safety of your child throughout this program. Make sure you discuss with your daughter the importance of keeping you informed about her progress, and if at any time you have questions or concerns please contact the Program Director.

 Some mentors may want to meet with you and your daughter as part of the overall experience. Meeting is not a formal part of the Cybermentor program and we do not endorse or support face-to-face meetings. There may be opportunities where the program staff will arrange a social gathering for the mentors and student participants to give them an opportunity to meet, and you will receive information about such events when they occur. Other opportunities may arise where mentors and their matches wish to meet (work-place tours, for example). These meetings must be arranged through the program office by the participant’s parents. Under no circumstances should any personal information such as phone numbers or addresses be exchanged between participants and mentors.

All personal information collected by Cybermentor is stored in a secure database. Unauthorized access is virtually impossible. The program director and program assistants are the only individuals authorized to access the information. Cybermentor's privacy policy provides additional information.
